An extremely odd family in Seoul, South Korea. So mad but, at the end of the day, a family. The family members are subjected to the grandfather’s discipline, who insists on regular morning martial arts practice, even on Sundays. A daughter who gets married, a surprise visit and two inept thieves who try to rob the house. The choreographies are a flight of the imagination, combined with martial arts harmonised with acrobatics, leave audiences with the feeling of having experienced something out of this world.
Jump is a family where its members are all experts in different martial arts.
The Grandpa: with 1000 plus years of martial arts traditions in his family, he practices every day, and he likes traditional family values. His skills will perplex you.
The Uncle: a master. His actions are always impressive. He always carries a bottle of whiskey with him. His personality astonishes everyone. His drunken acrobatics will amaze you. This type of acting led him to his being honoured with the Jackie Chan Award.
The Father: His goal is to keep the family united in the grandfather’s tradition. He has won the Royal Kim Chi Chopping Award nine years in a row and will go for it again next year.
The Mother: Three-time winner of the Martial Arts Mother-in-Law Championship in Incheon. She controls the father in all senses and is considered the stronger sex.
The Daughter: She’s as hard as her mother, but a bit posh, continuously doing her hair and nails. She never stops doing side and front flips.
The Son-in-Law: An intellectual with a breathtaking mastery of martial arts, but with two personalities, like Superman. He will be our Don Juan of the show.
The Robbers: What can we say about them? Completely inept, in the wrong house on the wrong day…
Year 2000. Yllana presents 666 to great success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A Korean theatre company presents Cooking, a show with which it would end up reaching Off Broadway. Come and see our show. You’ll love it.
Year 2005. The director of Cooking launched a new company: Yegam. They decide to launch Jump internationally, a show that combines martial arts and physical comedy. Its objective is to make the show more accessible to Western audiences, tweaking its structure and the comedy. The memories of 666 makes them think of us: Yllana.
The Company
Ye Gam was created in Seoul (South Korea) in 2001. Ye Gam is the first Asian company dishing up entertainment with acrobatics and martial arts. Ye Gam promotes martial arts theatre for people of all ages and from all cultures.
