The bastard daughter whom nobody speak about
Who was María Inés Calderón, known as the Calderona? For someone she was one of the most important Spanish stars of the 17th Century and for other people she was the most polemic lover of the king Felipe IV and mother to the recognized royal bastard Juan José de Austria. Rumors has it that she ended up her days as a leader of a bandits’ gang and for that reason the Valencian mountains are named after her.
How can be that a baby girl found abandoned on a doorstep would become the king’s lover in a country where being bastard and women was exactly the same as being nothing at all?
The history of the Calderona is a story about power, ambition, love and survival. It is a black comedy told with a DJ on stage playing hip hop music and going from the Barocco style of the 17th to the 21st Century. Are you going to miss it?
